Primary Purpose:

Achieve satisfactory internal and external audits by maintaining policies, processes and procedures, analyzing and responding to complex financial issues, delivering timely and accurate financial information that is actionable by the business and providing monthly reporting to ensure controller functions operate in an efficient and effective manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage process to record and report accurate, complete, and prompt financial activity each month within assigned area of responsibility
  • Manage interactions with internal and external auditors and deliver clean audit results by ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial statements and reports within assigned area of responsibility
  • Deliver controller business strategies by maintaining relationships with internal and external key stakeholders and utilizing financial acumen and knowledge of market competition and best practices to drive the adoption of innovative tools and effective product development for the achievement of profitability objectives
  • Manage the financial close processes by publishing timetables for preparation of financial close reconciliations and review accounting reconciliations and literature to ensure all documents have been reviewed and approved in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ensure all journal entries are posted in accordance with established deadlines; ensure journal entries and reconciliations are accurately and timely prepared and reviewed
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Lead and participate in financial change initiatives to ensure financial results remain accurate and complete at all times for the use of the business and other contributors
  • Optimize department performance by monitoring and analyzing insurance operations processes, conducting gap analysis, evaluating performance trends and recommending improvement strategies to translate feedback into actionable plans for enhancing service strategy
  • Manage budgeted resources efficiently and effectively by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting resource needs/costs and  properly accounting for expenses to meet requirements and achieve fiscal responsibility
  • Contribute to a positive environment by demonstrating cultural expectations and guiding leaders to reward performance and value “can do” people, accountability, diversity and inclusion, flexibility, continuous improvement, collaboration, creativity and fun

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • 7 years relevant experience
  • Advanced working knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data
  • Advanced working knowledge of products and concepts relating to the financial services industry, including insurance principles and concepts
  • Manage data to be accurate, timely and accessible
  • Analyze risks, benefits and opportunities to ensure organizational competitiveness and satisfaction of established long-range objectives
  • High degree of financial acumen and awareness of financial responsibility
  • Communicate information in a clear, well-organized, and professional manner
  • Collaborate internally and externally to accomplish a common goal; escalate issues when necessary
  • Efficiently and appropriately delegate tasks to ensure timely goal achievement
  • Complete tasks attentively and thoroughly
